Abuja - The families of the five police officers who were recently killed during a suicide bomb attack in Maiduguri have received N500 000 each as gesture of sympathy by the Borno State Government.
The Chairman of the State Emergency Relief and Rapid Response Committee (SERARRC), Dr Bulama Gubio, announced the government's presentation to the families of the deceased policemen and injured victims of the various attacks.
The confirmation followed a sympathy visit to the Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko.
The law enforcers were killed last Tuesday.
Gubio also led his committee on visits to hospitals in the town where the injured were being treated.
He sympathized with the Police Command over the death of the gallant officers aid the terror crisis.
He said the state government would do everything possible to ensure that the families of the deceased were properly assisted.
Gubio presented cash and food items comprising of assorted bags of rice, among others for onward delivery to the families of the deceased.
According to him, the gesture is to serve as palliative measures aimed at cushioning their economic hardship.
He also commended the efforts of the police and other security agencies in fighting insurgency and prayed that he bereaved families be granted the fortitude to bear the loss and the deceased to rest in eternal peace.
Police leaders expressed gratitude to the state government for the gesture and assured that the items would be judiciously distributed to the affected families.
