Fintri condemns Boko Haram attacks in Adamawa

10 September 2014, 15:00

Yola - The Acting Governor of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri, has assured that the authorities are doing everything possible to curtail the activities of Boko Haram in the state.

Fintiri gave the assurance in a broadcast to people of the state on the recent attacks by Boko Haram in the state in Yola on Tuesday.

He described the attacks as unfortunate, adding that necessary steps were being taken by the authorities to bring the situation under control.

"Events in the past four days in which insurgents have made incursions into the headquarters of Madagali and Michika Local Government Areas of the state leading to the displacement of scores of people and loss of lives have become an unfortunate chapter in our history.

"On behalf of the government and the people of Adamawa State, let me once more, deeply sympathise with the people of the two local government areas and hasten to reassure that everything that needs to be done is being done to bring the situation under control,’’ Fintiri said.

He said that as part of government efforts to assist people affected by the attacks, the State Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with the National Emergency Management Agency, had been directed to provide relief materials to the victims.

"Furthermore, I have just held an emergency security meeting with all service commanders and commissioners of police and I have spoken to the military high commander who have reassured us of immediate response to halt the incursions within the shortest possible time.’’
