Fire destroys 7 shops in Osun

Osun - No fewer than seven shops were razed at Asawo area of  Ede, Osun, while  property worth millions of naira were lost.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun Command, Mrs Folashade Odoro, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident occurred around  12 am on Thursday.

She said officers of the  State Fire Service were able to put off the fire,  saving some of the property from the inferno.

Odoro said in spite of the enormity of the fire, no life was lost, adding  that the cost of the damage was yet to be estimated.

Some of the victims of the fire incident interviewed said they were still in shock, having lost  belongings worth of millions of naira to the fire outrage

Recounting how the incident  affected them, Mr  Omolade Wakilu, a motorcycle spare part dealer, said the incident came as a shock.

Wakilu told NAN that the fire happened late in the night a few hours after he left his shop.

He said all his stock  and the money kept in the shop for the next day’s  business transaction were burnt  as fire fighters struggled to save the situation.

Adewale Akilu, another shop owner, said the cause of the fire incident was still a mystery.

Sherifat Adekanmi, the Executive Secretary of Ede South Local Government, visited the scene to ascertain the level of damage with a view to assisting the victims.


Also speaking to NAN on the incident, the state Director of Fire Service, Mr Michael Ogundipe, said the firemen responded to the incident immediately when contacted.
