Lagos - An evening fire on Thursday caused massive damage at the AIDS Prevention Initiative Clinic of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idiaraba.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of LUTH, Prof. Akin Oshibogun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the scene that smoke was first noticed from the building at about 7 p.m. as some doctors were holding a meeting at the clinic.
Oshibogun said that a fire alarm was raised and LUTH workers and sympathisers were able to evacuate and relocate all patients.
"No life was lost," the CMD said, adding that all patients attending the clinic should keep their appointments as contingency arrangements were being made to attend to them as scheduled.
NAN reports that fire fighters from Lagos State Fire Service succeeded in putting out the fire.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire has yet to be known.
