Katsina - At least, seven persons died in floods in Katsina State, Alhaji Hassan Rawayau, Executive Director of the state Rehabilitation and Emergency Relief Agency (RERA), said.
Rawayau told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Katsina on Thursday that the floods affected 15 of the 34 local government areas of the state.
More than 146 farmlands were destroyed by the flood in Kusada local government area, which experienced the highest level of flooding, he said.
“Thousands of houses were damaged by the flood in all the affected local governments and some victims, especially those in Randawa village of Mani Local Government Area, were resettled,” he said.
Rawayau said the floods had not affected agricultural activities much but added that RERA had started distributing relief materials from the National Emergency Relief Agency and the state government, to victims.
He urged the victims to consider the flood as an act of Allah.
