Enugu - The Enugu State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday paraded four persons arrested for conveying Straight Run Gasoline without authorisation.
They were alleged to be conveying the product, said to be more highly flammable than petrol, from Port Harcourt to Funtua in Katsina State.
The Commandant of the corps in the state, Nathaniel Ubong, said while parading the suspects that they mixed the product with petrol to get larger quantities which burnt faster in vehicles.
Ubong said the suspects could not account for the source of the oil when questioned by men of the corps, describing their activity as economic sabotage.
He said the corps was out to carry out its mandate of securing the oil facilities in the country because on them lay its economy.
The commandant said that as a member of the presidential task force on oil theft, the corps had stepped up its activities to stem the illegal act.
He said the suspects would be charged to the court in due course.
The driver of the 33 000 litres vehicle with registration number XH 534 NSR, who spoke only in Hausa, said he had been in the business for seven years.
