Abuja - Four police officers died in a gun battle with the kidnappers of Mike Ozekhome early on Thursday morning. The officers were apparently trying to confront the kidnappers. Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was kidnapped along with his driver at the Ehor end of the Benin-Auchi expressway on August 24.
The kidnappers reportedly asked for a N100million ($600 000) ransom for the release of the human rights activist and his driver.
It could not be ascertained if the N100m ransom was paid by family members or the state government but the kidnappers last week released the driver.
High profile kidnapping has become commonplace in Nigeria.
Kidnappers are abducting prominent people and foreign nationals with security personnel hapless.
