Friends arrested for drug trafficking

06 February 2015, 08:56

Abuja - Officials at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two women after they were found in possession of 19.8 kilogrammes of dried weeds, believed to be cannabis.

The suspects, Sandra Ebere (30) and Maureen Obidike (33), were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State, where they were due to board a flight to Dubai.

According to a PUNCH report, the drugs had been packaged and concealed in 80 parcels of foodstuffs and bottles.

Ebere, an Economics student, revealed to officials that she was directed to smuggle the contraband in exchange for a free visa.

Obidike, Ebere's accomplice, claims that her friend deceived her into carrying the drugs as she truly believed that they were exporting foodstuffs out of the country.

Umar Hamza, NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, has disclosed that the matter is still under investigation.
