Gbajabiamila accuses Dogara of undermining principal officers

04 November 2015, 14:05

Abuja - House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, has accused the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara of not consulting principal officers of the House before appointing chairpersons of House committees, Premium Times reports.

The recent appointments have reportedly caused dissatisfaction among lawmakers of the ruling All Progressives Congress, who complained that the composition of the committees favoured the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Of the 96 committees’ chairmen appointed by Dogara, the APC got 49 seats while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 46, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) were allotted one and two committee chairmanship slots respectively.

They also said the development which saw PDP members appointed to some key committees, including works, petroleum resources, aviation, army etc., could sabotage the 'change mantra' of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a letter dated October 20, addressed to Dogara, Gbajabiamila cautioned the Speaker against undermining his office as well as those of any Principal Officer in constituting the committees.
