Girls urged to take up opportunities in aviation

Abuja - An international organisation advocating for the empowerment of women is encouraging local girls to consider a career in aviation.

Women in Aviation International (WAI), which has embarked on an awareness campaign in that regard,has held its first Girls in Aviation Day in major airports in the country.

The organisation has also organised tour for selected secondary school girls to airside, Control Tower, Fire Service Complex, Peace Airline office as well as the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) site at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja.

There were also motivational speeches from role models in the sector such as Capt. Tolu- Ita of Aero Contractors, Engineer Tosin Adedoyin of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB-) and Mrs Eunice Fatokun, an air traffic controller with NAMA.

Speaking at the event, the President of WAI Nigeria Chapter, Rejoice Ndudinachi, noted that Women in Aviation was committed to supporting and ensuring young girls are inspired to take up careers in aviation.

"Experience has shown that women are more meticulous in anything they do," said Ndudinachi.
