Gombe - The Gombe State University (GSU) Chapter of ASUU is embarking on a one-day solidarity strike over the reappointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof. Barineme Fakae.
The Chairman of the union, Adamu Umar, who made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Gombe, said the strike would be held on Sept. 30.
Umar said that the union held a congress where it resolved to join in the nationwide strike in support of the current strike embarked upon by the RSUST Chapter of the RSUST over the appointment of the VC.
Asked to comment on the fate of 100-level students currently writing their examinations in the university, the chairman said the students should report to the school and observe developments.
“The one-day warning strike is in solidarity with the branch of ASUU in RSUST over the reappointment of their vice chancellor as acting vice chancellor after his tenure of five years as provided by the law had elapsed.
“The stake Gombe State University has is that we are loyal members of our union and this is a directive by the national body of our union that each branch of ASUU should embark on this one-day warning strike,” he said.
Some of the students who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity, expressed worry over what would happen to their papers.
They called on the management of the university to devise a means to ensure that they wrote their papers without hinderance.
