Gombe government debunks police harassment of Goje’s family house

24 December 2014, 08:29

Abuja - The Gombe State Government has debunked accusation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo ordered police and the army to break into Sen. Mohammed Goje’s house.

The Gombe Chief of Staff, the Government House, Gombe, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, debunked the accusation at a joint news conference on Tuesday organised by PDP leadership and the Gombe State government in Abuja.

He described the accusation as baseless.

The media recalls that APC at the weekend had accused Dankwambo of ordering the police and the army to break into Sen. Goje’s family house.

The party further alleged that the police and army tear-gassed and arrested former governor’s relations.

The APC also said that Dankwambo ordered the removal of all APC billboards and posters in Kashere town.

Mohammed also alleged that Goje mobilised political thugs to attack the convoy of Dankwambo during the governor’s visit to the Federal University, Kashere.

The chief of staff said that many cars were destroyed and several persons injured during the attack.
He added that it was during the attack on the governor's convoy that the police and army swung into action and made some arrests.

“APC's efforts to turn Gombe into a theatre of violence will be resisted.”

“Gombe is PDP from top to bottom and bottom to top. We are working assiduously to ensure that PDP remains the party to beat,” he said.

Mohammed called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Federal Government to carry out thorough investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.

He said that with the meagre resources available to the state, Dankwambo had been utilising the resources to positively transform the state.

Mohammed said that the state government remained resolute in its determination to develop that in spite obvious challenges facing the state and efforts by the opposition to retard the development of the area.

He said that youth restiveness in the state had been reduced to the barest minimum while plans were on to get the state out of its present challenges.

The chief of staff expressed the determination of the state government to make “Dubai of Nigeria”.

He said that Dankwambo was one of the PDP governors in the country whose mandate had not been challenged in the court.
Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary in his remarks, said that the party`s leadership was pleased with Dankwambo’s performance and described him as “the jewel in the desert”.

He said that the governor was one of the best five governors of the PDP, adding that the party`s leadership would go to any length to ensure that he was protected.

Mohammed added that the PDP-government always followed due process to avoid a situation where people might think the opposition was being maltreating or victimising.
