Abuja - The federal government has dismissed reports that it hired foreign mercenaries in its battle to defeat the Boko Haram insurgents in the north, Premium Times reports.
Mike Omeri, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) stated this in Abuja amidst reports that the military hired mercenaries from South Africa and other countries since the renewed fight against the insurgents began on February 14.
Omeri said a lot of Nigerians mistake consultants helping in the deployment and use of newly acquired military hardware as mercenaries.

In the renewed battle against the terrorists, the military has been able to recapture several territories previously taken by the insurgents.
The Defence Forces confirmed the Air Force was continuing efforts to pound terrorists’ hideouts in some locations in Yobe and Borno States as part of ongoing campaign against Boko Haram.
