Yola - Unknown gunmen on Friday attacked attacked the Maiha Prison and Divisional Police Station in Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa.
A resident of the town, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiha in Adamawa that the attack took place at about 3 a.m. on December 28.
The source added that the attack also affected the Government Lodge and two courts, which were set ablaze by the gunmen.
However, he could not confirm if there were casualties or if some prison inmates were released during the incident.
Reacting to the development on phone, the state Controller of Prisons, Mr Andrew Barka, confirmed the attack.
Barka, who declined to give details of the attack, however, said that he was on his way to Maiha.
"I am on my way to Maiha with the Commissioner of Police," Barka said.
On his part, the Police Commissioner, Mr Godfrey Okeke, simply said: "Please I am busy for now, don't disturb me."
