Gunmen attack STF personnel in Plateau

16 November 2012, 16:43 -

Plateau - Unknown gunmen on Thursday night attacked personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) at the Maijankai village in Barkin ladi Local Government Area of Plateau.

The STF Media Officer, Capt. Salisu Mustapha, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Friday.

``Our men were on routine patrol when the unknown gunmen fired at them and the troops fired back. In the process four of the gunmen were shot on their legs and arrested on Friday."

He said no soldier was injured or killed during the attack, adding that one of the assailants was captured unhurt.

Mustapha said: ‘’Our troops were able to recover two AK-47 rifles, two rifle magazines and 24 special live rounds of 7.62mm from the gunmen.’’

The statement said that preliminary investigation revealed that the gunmen were from Bauchi State and were heading to Jagindi village in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State when the incident occurred.

It said the suspects had been handed over to the police for necessary action.

The statement enjoined the people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious movement within their vicinity to the relevant security agencies.
