Yenagoa - Gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped the mother of the Majority Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr Peter Akpe.Mrs Esther Akpe, 59, was said to have been kidnapped on Tuesday night at about 9.30 p.m. by five armed men who broke into her family home at Ebedebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa.The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) learnt that the gunmen came through the surrounding river by boat and made away with their victim.Sources told NAN that the woman was sitting outside her home when the gunmen struck.Akpe confirmed the incident to newsmen on phone on Wednesday, saying that the family had not been able to establish contact with the kidnappers.The lawmakers who had earlier resumed for the day's sitting were forced to postpone plenary in solidarity with their colleague.When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Yenagoa, Mr Fidelis Odunna (DSP), confirmed the incident."The mother of Hon. Peter Akpe, Leader of the State House of Assembly was kidnapped at Ebedebiri community."The kidnappers reportedly moved towards Bomadi and our men are on their trail," Odunna said.
