15 January 2013, 07:28

Kano - Gunmen on Monday killed two policemen and injured two civilians at Kawo Tishama in the outskirt of Kano metropolis, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

An eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the incident occurred around 4 p.m.

According to the witness, the gunmen rode on a tricycle to the area and opened fire on some policemen manning a check-point.

The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, ASP Magaji Majiya, confirmed report.

"Two of our policemen were gunned down while two civilians were injured during the gun battle between the gunmen and our men," he said.

He said the gunmen engaged the policemen in a gun duel.

He said some of the suspected gunmen escaped with some bullet wounds.

Majiya explained that security operatives were quickly mobilised to the scene of the incident while security had been beefed up to arrest the suspects.

"Investigation into the incident has also commenced," he said.
