Abuja - The Jigawa State Hisbah Command confirmed the arrest of more than 20 commercial sex workers and an unspecified number of the women’s traditional musicians as well as the owner of the house some suspects operated from.
The state commandant of Hisbah, Aliyu Galamawa, said these were arrested in three villages as part of efforts by law enforcements agents to complement government efforts to rid the state of prostitution.
He said the arrest followed a security report that the suspects had invaded different parts of Jigawa after they had been dislodged from Bauchi, Kano and Lagos states.
“The commercial sex workers were said to have divided themselves to various towns and villages such as Ringim, Chaichai and Dutse,” Galawa said in Dutse, the Jigawa capital.
He explained that 21 of the sex workers were arrested in Ringim and Dutse with their traditional musicians, while others were arrested in Chaichai town with the owner of the house they rented.
Galamawa said they were handed over to the state police command for prosecution.
He said the Hisbah Command would support government efforts to rid the state of criminals.
Hisbah is an Islamic doctrine of keeping everything in order within the laws of Allah, the Islam deity.
