Hopes retained Chibok girls will be rescued

02 November 2015, 13:04Emeka Okonkwo

Abuja - The BringBackOurGirls group has appealed to members of the public to support the armed forces asthey battle the Boko Haram terrorists.

This follows the forces making breakthroughs against the sect, with the freeing of a significant number of civilians in recent weeks.

On Wednesday last week, the Nigerian troops at the fringes of Sambisa forest rescued about 338 people (eight men, 138 women and 192 children) from Boko Haram insurgents.

It is however not clear if any of the rescued hostages were part of the Chibok girls the notorious group abducted in the Borno State community last year in April. Efforts to rescue them have been unsuccessful so far.

“The BringBackOurGirls group has called on Nigerians to rally behind the military and security agencies in the fight against insurgency, so that the fight can be won. We look forward to the freedom of our girls,” the group said this past weekend.

It is holding mass prayers around the country appealing for the rescue of the school girls kidnapped in Chibok, among other victims of the Boko Haram’s reign of terror.
