Ikuru denies ex-secretary's assassination allegations

12 May 2015, 11:09

Rivers - Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, has denied allegations he is behind attempts to assassinate former Press Secretary, Godswill Jumbo.

“The attention of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Engr. Tele Ikuru has been drawn to some spurious allegations making the rounds in the news media. Indeed, responding to the allegations raised by an erstwhile casual staff of his Excellency may not have been an option, except that the accusations are baseless and an assault directed on the office and person of the Deputy Governor,” Ikuru’s spokesperson, Ednah Alete, said.

“His Excellency, Engr. Tele Ikuru vehemently denies allegations of attempted abduction and assassination leveled against him by Godswill Jumbo. It is unfounded, untrue, misleading and considered as an attempt to malign his character and image through the media and call on law enforcement agencies to unravel the truth behind Mr. Jumbo’s tantrums. The Deputy Governor is a man of character and integrity and cannot be swayed by the antics of Godswill Jumbo and his Co-travelers.”

Alete said Jumbo was sacked for “ethical issues” bothering on serious professional misconduct, theft, criminality and total lack of capacity to handle the demands of his office.

Jumbo has recently been arrested after allegedly failing to return state property following his dismissal.

“It is not surprising to know that Godswill Jumbo is a member of the All Progressives Congress. These seem to be the type of characters APC embraces into its fold. Known thieves and criminals. I wish him well in his future endeavor,” Alete said.
