02 July 2013, 08:41

Abuja - Operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) have intercepted boats containing illegal stolen crude oil and discovered new illegal loading points.

JTF spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, stated that two of the boats were arrested at Igbomotoru, three at Oyeregbene and one each at Lagosgbene and Mbikiba during anti-oil theft operations.

He said the troops also discovered three new illegal crude oil loading points at Igbomotoru, Oyeregbene and Mbikiba and intercepted two self-propelled barges prowling around Bonny anchorage in Rivers State, without the necessary registration documents.

The JTF discovered nine illegal crude oil distillation camps in Abekebor, Okpogbene, Issaba, Agedeben and Ajudaibo general area in Warri South-West local government area of Delta State.

Nwachukwu advised the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) to immediately carry out an assessment on the discovered illegal loading points with a view to sealing the points.

JTF operatives are currently combing the coastlines of Peterside and Kalaibiama communities, as well as in Bonny and Onne.
