Lagos - A couple has appeared at the Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State, for allegedly defrauding a man to the tune of N7 million in a phoney land deal.
Edmund Opara and his wife, Amarachi, have appeared on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money from one Okechukwu Ogbonna by false pretence .
The accused pair was, in 2012, alleged to have collected money from Ogbonna for a sale of a land situated at the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate 11 in Umuguma, New Owerri. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In view of their plea, the prosecution counsel, Ifeanyi Agwu, applied for a date for the commencement of trial but the defence counsel, Umunna Nwaorgu orally presented a bail application and urged the court to admit his clients to bail.
The matter has been adjourned to May 22 for hearing of the bail application while the accused couple is remanded in prison custody.
