Imo bans illegal motor parks

01 November 2012, 12:19

Imo - The Imo government has banned illegal motor parks and indiscriminate picking of passengers by commercial vehicles in Owerri.

The state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Best Mbanaso, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Wednesday that the ban was in line with Gov. Rochas Okorocha’s rescue mission to sanitise the state capital.

He listed the unauthorised locations to include Okigwe Road, Ama JK and environs, Assumpta Roundabout, Mbaise Road, Modotel Roundabout and the entire length of Douglas Road.

``All vehicles plying various routes are by this final notice directed to move into the designated parks immediately,” he said.

Mbanaso, who is also the chairman of the task force on the decongestion of the state capital, said it would impound any vehicle caught violating the rule.

``Anyone caught disobeying the directive of the state government will be subjected to severe penalty,” he warned.
