Imo - The Imo Commissioner for Finance, Mr Chike Okafor, says the accounts of the 27 Local Government Areas in the state have not been frozen, contrary to speculations.
Okafor made the clarification on Friday in Owerri.
The clarification came at the heels of rumours making the rounds that Gov. Rochas Okorocha had ordered the freezing of the accounts of the local governments.
It was also speculated that the governor was about sacking the Transitional Council Chairmen of the local governments for alleged non-performance.
``No, there is nothing like that, it is all romour; disregard those hearsay reports,’’ he urged.
Also contacted on telephone on the issue, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr Chinedu Offor, said that the council accounts had not been tampered with.
``No, the story is not true, there is nothing like that, as far as I know,’’ Offor, who is now a commissioner-designate in the state, said.
NAN recalls that Okorocha on Wednesday sacked six commissioners and announced the nomination of six new commissioners-designates.
