Abuja - Eight prisoners have reportedly escaped from the Daura Prison in Katsina State.
According to sources, the inmates earlier this week capitalised on the wet weather and dug a hole to make good their escape.
"The prisoners dug a ditch in their cells through which they escaped," a source told this publication.
It was also established that all efforts to re-arrest the run-away criminals have failed.
A search party dispatched by the prison authority to recapture them returned empty-handed.
Efforts to get comments from prison authorities on the reports drew a blank.
A Deputy Prison Controller, Abubakar Usman, insisted that the Public Relations Officer had an accident while their Controller was away on official assignment and thus no official could comment.
"I was not authorized to speak. You know everybody has his own limitations and therefore it is not my mandate to speak," he said.
A prison official who wished to remain anonymous said the case had been taken over by the Headquarters of the Command.
