Lagos - The anti-illegal oil bunkering squad of the Joint Task Force (JTF) has disclosed that oil thieves in the Niger Delta area using sewage disposal trucks to load stolen crude oil.
The JTF unit said one of such sewage trucks was recently intercepted along Ibada-Amukpe community road in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State and discovered to be carrying about 12 000s litre of stolen crude.
JTF Media Officer, Lt. Col. Mustapha Anka, said the sewage truck was declared to be carrying waste and heading to disposal dump by its occupants, but was discovered to be carrying illegally acquired crude oil.

He said suspects were promptly arrested and the truck impounded with the product and are now in the custody of the JTF for preliminary investigation, following which they would be handed over to prosecuting agency.
The JTF spokesperson said thieves appear never to be running out of devious ways to store their loot.
"The task force had in recent times discovered illegal oil dumps buried inside shrines, sitting room and septic tanks," he said.
