Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday expressed sadness over the death of Prof. Nur Alkali, a delegate to the 2014 National Conference in Abuja.
Alkali, who represented Nigeria's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) at the conference, died in his residence on Friday night in Maiduguri.
Aged 68, the deceased was a professor of History and two-term Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri between 1985 and 1992.
In a statement issued by Dr Reuben Abati his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan commiserated with Alkali's family, the leadership and delegates to the conference, as well as the NSCIA.
He urged the family, friends, associates and colleagues of the deceased at the conference to be consoled by the knowledge that he lived a fulfilled life of patriotic service to his community and the country.
