Jos records first rain 2013

21 January 2013, 09:05

Jos - Jos, the capital of Plateau, on Sunday recorded her first rain for the year 2013.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rain, which started around 4.20 p.m. in Riyom, in the outskirts of the city, spread across the entire Jos-Bukru metropolis.

The rain, which lasted for two hours and was accompanied by mild lightening and thunder, took many residents by surprise.

NAN correspondents, who moved round some parts of the city, saw many scampering for shelter, while some took refuge under bus tops and other structures along the highways.

Others, however, chose to walk through the rain to their residences.

Some residents, who spoke to NAN, described the early rains as quite unusual.

A taxi driver, Mr Enoch Ike, described the rain as sign of possible heavy rain this season.

``This year is my 10th in Jos, but I have never experienced anything like this. I only pray we shall be spared another flood disaster this year,’’ he said.

Umar Yakubu, a security man with NAN, also expressed surprise at the development.

``The sudden change of the weather was even more surprising; one would think we are already at the peak of the raining season,’’ he said.
