Kaduna Electricity Company loses N27.4m to vandals

06 November 2012, 16:03

Kaduna  -The Kaduna Elecriticity Distribution Company on Tuesday said it lost N27.4 million to vandals between January and October this year.

The Managing Director of the Company, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna, that the vandals had been targeting electricity supply facilities in the zone.

He said their illegal activities had been frustrating the company's efforts towards ensuring steady power supply to Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto and Kebbi.

Mohammed said eight transformers, comprising five 500 KVA and three 300 KVA transformers, were stolen stolen in the zone while 550 metres of core cables were damaged.

"The spate of vandalism on PHCN facilities in the zone has became a source of concern to all of us."

He urged residents to form vigilante groups to check the activities of the vandals and ensure regular power supply.

"PHCN resources are scarce and it cost the company so much to get the damaged facilities replaced."
