22 May 2013, 14:03

Kano- Kano State Government on Tuesday destroyed fake and illicit drugs worth N50 million in an effort to rid the state of consumption of dangerous drugs by residents.

A statement issued by the state Ministry of Health in Kano said that Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso conducted the destruction of the drugs.

It said that the governor urged groups and individuals in the state to support government's efforts in fighting drug abuse to ensure a decent society.

The statement also said the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, had commended government for identifying with the needs and aspirations of the people by sanitising drugs business in the state.

Labaran said that "this is the third time the government is spear-heading the burning of these adulterated drugs in 2013.”

The statement also said Ali Adamu, Chairman, Task Force Committee on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs, had restated his committee’s readiness to make the state free of dangerous drugs.
