Katsina allocates funds for water provision

Katsina - Katsina government has allocated the sum of N9.6 billion  to ensure provision of clean water in the region this year.

Governor Ibrahim Shema disclosed the amount on Friday at the commissioning of a semi-urban water supply project in Batsari.

Shema said within the last six years, government had spent N7 billion on provision of portable water.

He said about 3 000 boreholes were also constructed across the state.

The governor called on the people of Batsari area to make good use of the facilities provided to them and guard against vandalism.

The State Commissioner of Water Resources, Gide Sani Batagarawa, said the Batsari semi urban water project was aimed at ending water scarcity facing villages in the area.

Meanwhile, Katsina is collaborating with 34 local government areas of the state to construct feeder roads in the region.

The roads total a length of 680 kilometres.

Shema said the construction of the feeder roads would ease transportation problems.

The governor explained that the state government had provided earth moving equipment to councils for construction of the feeder roads. He assured that his administration would provide adequate funds for the road project.
