14 October 2013, 15:05

Katsina - The Katsina State Government announced the ban of commercial motorcycles and the Keke NAPEP commercial tricycles in a move officials said was aimed at enhancing the safety of members of the public.

The ban takes effect next weekend.

Police Commissioner, Muhammad Hurdi, confirmed this while briefing reporters at Government House at the end of the Security Council meeting.
He said the ban, which is to cover all parts of the state, would remain in force till further notice.

Hurdi said the ban on the operations of the activities of the motorcyclists and the operators of the Keke NAPEP would help to boost the security of the lives of the people and their property.

The Police Commissioner enjoined people in the State to continue to support government policies and programmes and to co-exist in peace for harmony and progress to prevail.

Hurdi promised that Security agents in the State would continue to adopt proactive approaches to tackle any threat that may arise in respect of security. Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming Sallah festival scheduled for Tuesday, the police leader charged motorists and other road users to respect traffic rules and regulations to attain hitch-free festivities.
