Katsina - Katsina State has disbursed N38 million to more than 500 female students under the Teachers’ Training Students Scholarship.
The state's Special Adviser on Girl Child Education, Bilkisu Kaikai, said the money was disbursed to 756 students studying various courses for the National Certificate in Education (NCE) certificates at the Isa Kaita College of Education in Dutsinma in the state.
She said each student received the sum of N50 000 as assistance with call on them to make good use of the money.
Kaikai said the state government would sustain the programme in view of its importance toward encouraging females to pursue education with an appeal to wealthy individuals to complement government effort in the educational sector.
While commending the state government for the assistance to female students of the college, the UNICEF focal person at the College, Kabir Magaji said UNICEF had also assisted 250 students as part of its 20 percent contribution to the programme.
He assured that UNICEF would continue to monitor their performance.
The Director of Girl Education in the state, Sanusi Salisu, said the benefiting students would be employed to teach in rural schools on completion of their studies.
