Lokoja - The police in Lokoja have arrested a 20-year-old girl, Rekiya Ademu and her brother-in-law, Gambo Ebute, 21, for allegedly killing her 65-year-old grandmother, Amina Ebute over N8 000.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Katsina, who disclosed this while parading the suspects on Tuesday in Lokoja, said the girl tricked the deceased to a nearby farm where she killed her.
The commissioner said the suspects committed the offence on November 5, at Ejinya villlage in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi.
According to the commissioner, Rekiya hit her grandmother to death with a long stick and dragged the lifeless body under a cashew tree near the old woman's house.
She was said to have cut down a branch of the cashew tree and pulled it on the body to suggest that the tree fell on her while the woman was cutting it.
Katsina said Rekiya subsequently entered the woman's house and stole her N8 000, clothes and other items and to cover her tracks, implicated one Gambo Ebute, her brother in-law.
According to the police boss, Rekiya has earlier confessed committing the crime but while fielding questions from newsmen, she said that Gambo committed the crime in her presence.
The police, however, said that the deceased grandmother's personal effects, including her waistband purse containing the N8 000 were recovered from Rekiya.
Katsina said the long stick with which she allegedly hit the woman was recovered with blood stains from the farm, adding that the suspects would be arraigned on completion of police investigations.
