Kogi to build world-class airport

Abuja - The Federal Government and Kogi State Government are set to collaborate in building a world-class airport in Lokoja in a move poised to bring the state’s economy at par with other states in the country.

Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, disclosed the plans during a courtesy visit to the Ministry by Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada.

The Minister explained that the establishment of an airport in Lokoja will fulfil the Federal Government’s policy drive towards building airports in all the state capitals in the federation.

He added that it would enhance the emergence of regional airlines which will uplift the aviation sector.

The minister further noted that  government had commissioned the Dutse International Airport.

He promised that the airports in Abeokuta, Bayelsa, Kebbi and Nassarawa States were in progress.

Chidoka also stated that being a confluence city where Nigeria originated from, the Lokoja Airport, would promote tourism activities as well as enable Kogi State and the entire country to grow economically.

The Federal Government will work out modalities with Kogi towards assisting the state.

Meanwhile, Wada said that the purpose of his visit to the Ministry was to congratulate the minister on his appointment.

"The ministry has been entrusted to the right person," he said.

Wada said the state government considered the strategic location of Lokoja and solicited for assistance from the federal government to enable the state build the targeted world-class Lokoja Airport. - CAJ News
