Kwara govt. spends N100m on relief materials

Ilorin - The Kwara Government said on Sunday it spent more than N100 million to provide relief materials  to 25,000 victims of various disasters in the state in 2012.

Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, the Special Adviser to Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed on Emergency and Relief Services, disclosed this in IIorin while distributing some materials to disaster victims in the state. The materials, worth millions of naira, were donated to the victims by various agencies and organisatuions.

They included bags of cement, rice, beans, gari and print wax. He said the donation provided immediate succour to the victims, adding that the government trained 50 students on disaster management. He advised the people of the state to desist from acts that could cause disasters in their domains. Some of the beneficiaries told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the materials would reduce their hardship.

The donors included the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), MTN Foundation and students of sociology education, Kwara State University, Malete.
