Abuja - The Kwara State Government has
cancelled the 55th Independence Anniversary parade over security fears.
The event was previously scheduled to hold at the
Metropolitan Square, Ilorin.
Secretary to the Government of Kwara State, Alhaji Sola
Isiaka Gold, confirmed the cancellation.

He said this followed security reports that certain
individuals arrived in the state overnight with the intention of unlawfully
disrupting the independence day celebration and endangering lives.
Gold regretted any inconvenience caused by the
cancellation but stressed that the government considered public safety more
