LG spends N100m on 10 clinics

08 February 2013, 07:36

Yabo - Alhaji Abubakar Shamaki, the Chairman of Yabo Local Government of Sokoto State, on Thursday said the council spent N100 million to construct 10 primary health centres in the area.

Shamaki told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yabo that the centres were located in each of the 10 wards to boost health care delivery at the rural areas.

He explained that 84 health personnel had been engaged to manage the institutions.

Shamaki said necessary equipment had also been provided to ensure qualitative health care delivery to the people.

The chairman directed traditional rulers to monitor the performance of primary school teachers in their areas.

Shamaki said the approach would ensure that the teachers stayed in their duty posts for optimal performance.

He said the council was in partnership with the Local Education Authority on how best to improve teachers' performance and ensure qualitative education.

He said disciplinary measures would be taken against those involved in absenteeism and other forms of indiscipline.

Shamaki promised that the council would continue to support and encourage parents to send their children and wards to schools.

He said that provision of conducive teaching and learning atmosphere would continue to receive priority attention.

"This is to adequately prepare the academic ground for youths as future leaders of Nigeria," he said.

Shamaki also called for the active participation of traditional and religious leaders in sensitising parents to the importance of girl
child education.

He said the council planned to convert the Yabo Day Secondary School to a Girls' College, while male students of the institution would be transfered to the Community Secondary School Yabo.
