Lagos begins issuance of driver's licence June 22

Lagos - The Lagos State Government on Monday said it would commence issuance of the new driver’s licence on June 22.

The state government had earlier announced June 18 for the commencement of the exercise.

Mr Kayode Opeifa, Commissioner of Transportation said that the change in the date was to enable the state government put in place the necessary logistics.

Opeifa said that although the office has started receiving applications for the licence, the issuance would start on Friday, June 22.

“Right now, we are looking into already registered driver’s licences. Applicants can go for the registration as from today,“ he said.

An officer who pleaded anonymity disclosed that applicants have started obtaining and paying for the form.

The officer said that obtaining the form would allow applicants to undergo all necessary tests and certification.

He explained that the tests included sight, competence in driving, knowledge of road signs and rules and verification of documents.

He said that after the tests, a cover note would be given to applicant certified worthy before the driver’s licence is issued.
