Lagos distributes permanent residency cards

15 May 2015, 07:59Augustine Osayande

Abuja - The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) is set to commence the distribution of Permanent Residency Card to State and Local Government employees.

The employees participated in the ongoing registration exercise.

The distribution is set for Friday at the Blue Roof of the Lagos State Television in Ikeja.

LASRRA General Manager, Yinka Fashola, disclosed the development.

She said the need for public distribution of the cards to those who had previously registered is to encourage others to participate in the on-going registration exercise.

"Registration is free and mandatory for children, the young and the old. All residents can register at any of the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State," Fashola said.

She urged all those residing in the State to participate in the on-going residency registration exercise, stressing that their registration will help the agency develop the required, accurate and updatable data base for Government to effectively plan and ensure adequate development in the state.

The residency card is an electronic means of identification and authentication that the LASRRA undertakes to issue to all residents of Lagos State.

Using sophisticated technological features, the residency card is a safe means of identification of persons and verification of their identities.

It contains a unique reference number (residency number) that links every individual to his/her own personal and biological data.

The residency number serves as a reference for the respective individual in his/her identity-proved transactions with government bodies.

Some 3 million residents are said to have registered. Lagos State has an estimated population of more than 21 million.
