Ikeja - The Lagos State Government says it has sealed a three-storey building in Lagos Island and an events hall in Oregun for violating environmental laws.
Mr Olalekan Shodeinde, the Coordinator of the Lagos State Waste Water Management Office, stated in a statement in Ikeja that a number of residential buildings in Agege, and Bariga areas were also among those sealed for the same reason.
The statement, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikeja explained that sewage and waste water were being discharged from the affected buildings in a way that could cause cholera epidemic and diseases like malaria and typhoid.
It said that abatement notices had been served to the residents of the sealed buildings on several occasions but they refused to comply with government`s sewage and waste water management standards.
It stressed that the waste water management office had embarked on an enforcement exercise and urged all Lagosians to comply with sanitary laws or face the wrath of the law.
