Maiduguri varsity celebrates anniversary milestone

04 May 2015, 19:43

Abuja - The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has established a committee to lead preparations for the institution's 40th anniversary celebrations.

The Vice Chancellor of the Borno State-based university, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, inaugurated the 16-member committee on Monday. Professor Abdullahi Godowoli will serve as the Chairman Committee with Philibus Mshelia as the Secretary. Njodi said the committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks.

It has the following terms of reference: to propose a detailed framework for the 40th anniversary celebration; to identify governments, organisations and individuals that will support in the successful 40th anniversary celebration; to propose a suitable date for the 40th anniversary and to look for any other matter relevant to the assignment.

Njodi said the university had come of age and the management are genuinely committed and determined to fulfill the mission and vision for which this university was established as well as further contribute our quota to national development.

He said in recognition of the enduring legacy the university management therefore deemed it necessary to mark this important milestone of the institution to constitute a committee that will be saddled with the responsibility to prepare or organize the 40th anniversary celebration of the university.

There are graduates of the university on sensitive and higher positions in the private and public sectors within and outside Nigeria making their alma-mater very proud with tall sense of modesty and pride that our university is 40years of establishment and standing tall and competing globally as an institution,² said Njodi.

He noted that the university had served its immediate community and would continue to serve its immediate community, the country and indeed the global needs of the society by producing trained professionals and contributing to solving societal problems through learning and cutting edge research.

Njodi charged the committee members to repay the confidence repose in them.

Godowoli thanked the institution for finding the members worthy to serve the university and assured the university community that the members of the committee were up to the task.

They should expect the best from us within the stipulated period, said Godowoli.
