Osogbo - The Osun Police Command on Wednesday arraigned a 24-year-old man, Sanusi Sheriff, before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates' Court for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl.

The Police Prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 5 around 4 p.m. at Agbaje village in Ife South Local Government Area.

Fagboyinbo said that the accused committed an offence which contravened Section 360 of the Criminal Code 2003 and Section 31(1) and (2) of Child's Rights Law of Osun 2007.

The accused pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out to him.
His counsel, Alfred Nagode, applied for his bail.

Ruling on the bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Adebayo Lasisi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Lasisi, however, ruled that the surety, who must reside within the court's jurisdiction, should provide three years’ tax clearance certificate and two passport photographs.

He later adjourned the case to November 8 for mentioning.
