Man arraigned for stealing motorcycle

Akure - A 29 year-old man, Akomolafe Bayo, was on Friday arraigned before an Akure Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing TVS brand of a motorcycle valued at N160 000.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Adejuwo Pelumi, told the court that the accused allegedly stole one TVS motorcycle with registration No. QZ 148 SMK, belonging to one Onuh Adrew.

Adejuwon said that the accused allegedly committed the offence on Aug. 26, at about 1 p.m. at First Bank Area, Alagbaka, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to him, the alleged offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

The accused, who was represented by his counsel, Francis Balogun, prayed the court to grant him his client bail in liberal term.

He argued that the accused would neither jump the bail nor interfere with the police investigation, if the bail was granted.

Magistrate Bukola Kuye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N150 000 with one surety in like sum.

Kuye said that the surety must be resident within the court's jurisdiction and must complete the affidavit of means with two recent passports.

The case was adjourned to Oct. 10 for further hearing.
