Man docked for allegedly impregnating daughter, 12

Makurdi - The Police on Tuesday charged one Akate Thomas, 42, before a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impregnating his 12-year-old daughter.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Omaye Ujata, told the court that one Francis Omanga of Adi Etulo in the Buruku Local Government Area of Benue reported the case at the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Makurdi.

Ujata alleged that the accused had sexual intercourse with his two daughters, 12 and 10 years old.

She explained that one of the victims got pregnant as a result of the "constant forceful sexual intercourse’’.

The prosecutor disclosed that the accused threatened to kill the kids whenever they tried to expose him.

The accused was arrested by the police and he voluntarily confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, denied committing the offence.

The Magistrate, Mr David Agada, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum, who should be a relative of the accused.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 16 for further mention.
