Man in court for murdering a policeman

20 November 2013, 06:37

Ado-Ekiti - An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a man, Ahmed Bello, 25, in prison custody for the alleged murder of a mobile policeman.

Police prosecutor Sunday Onwuchekwa told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 15 at about 3 p.m. at Ogbon-Ado Street, Ado-Ekiti.

He said the accused, and others now at large, on the said date, caused the death of one Cpl. David Skiyo, attached to 33 PMF, Ado-Ekiti, by beating and hitting him with stick.

Onwuchekwa said the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti, 2012, and that he had sent the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The accused was not represented by any defence counsel and his plea was not taken.

Chief Magistrate Olanike Adegoke consequently remanded the accused in prison custody, pending legal advice from the DPP.

She adjourned the case to December 11 for further hearing.
