Man sentenced to four months for stealing

29 May 2013, 07:33

Ado-Ekiti - An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced one Peter James to four months imprisonment for stealing a block moulding machine.

The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Ebenezer Ewuola, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 21, 2013 at Oke Ila Street, Ado-Ekiti.

He said that the accused stole a machine valued at N350,000, property of one Ayodele Femi.

Ewuola said that the offence contravened Section 383 of the criminal code Cap C 16 Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria.

The accused, who was not represented by any counsel, had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge before the court.

The accused pleaded with the court to have mercy on him, saying that hunger led him to stealing.

The prosecutor opposed the plea of the accused, saying that hunger was not enough excuse to steal.

The Magistrate, Bayode Owoeye, sentenced the accused to four months imprisonment without an option of paying a fine, saying that it would serve as deterrent to others.
