Media practitioner docked for allegedly assaulting security guard

Lagos - A 30-year-old media practitioner, Selom Erodoga, was docked on Thursday at an Ebutte Meta Chief Magistrates' Court for allegedly assaulting one Samgold John, his security guard.

The accused, who resides at No. 10, Whitesand Beach Estate, Ologolo in Lekki Peninsula, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Cousin Adams, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 7, at his residence.

Adams told the court that Erodoga was annoyed with his security guard for an attitude he considered disrespectful.

He said  it had been the norm for John to be rude to his boss and on this occasion, Erodoga assaulted John by giving him a head butt on his upper lip, causing him serious injury.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 244(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, K.O. Ariyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until May 12 for mention.
