Lokoja - The Federal Medical Centre Lokoja, on Thursday said it would soon install an oxygen plant in the centre to cater for emergency cases in Kogi.
Dr Bada Eleshin, Chief Medical Director of the centre, disclosed this in Lokoja when the state chapter of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) visited him. Eleshin said the decision to install the plant was due to the strategic location of Lokoja.
The plant, he said, would help to sustain accident victims and other patients in critical conditions, adding that many lives had been lost to the absence of the facility. He said medical personnel to man the plant were being trained in various health institutions and research centres nationwide.
Earlier, Mr Onu Edoka, Chairman of the union in the state, commended the director for his development strides, especially the provision of infrastructure at the centre. Edoka called on the management of the centre to consider upward review of check-off dues of members of the union at the centre, saying that the percentage was grossly low.
He appealed to the management not to allow the Senior Staff Association at the centre to register staff as members of MHWUN.
The chairman said the association was only allowed at research institutes and teaching hospitals level.
