N10bn fraud: Jigawa governor’s sons arrested

15 November 2013, 14:29

Abuja - Aminu and Mustapha  Lamido, sons of Jigawa State governor,  Sule Lamido were arrested for  N10billion fraud.

The duo were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday in Kano and flown to EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Friday morning.

According to Premium Times insiders, the arrest is connected to Aminu Lamido’’s arrest in December 2012 for possessing an undisclosed $50 000 in his luggage.

Though a Kano court had convicted Aminu, the $50 000 found on him is believed to be part of a money laundering scheme in which over N10 billion  has been siphoned from the jigawa state coffers to companies run by the sons of the governor.

In some quarters, the arrest is believed to be politically motivated, as Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido is one of the seven rebellious governors in the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
